Did you know the human papillomavirus (HPV) can cause cancer in men and women and will affect 3 in 4 Canadians during their lifetimes?
The good news is that the HPV vaccine can prevent many of these cancers, but we need your help!
In Ontario, only girls are included in the current school-based HPV vaccination program, while boys often have to pay out-of-pocket to receive the vaccine through a health practitioner. That is not fair.
The Canadian Cancer Society wants to equalize access to the #HPVvaccine for boys and girls.
"I've always received vaccinations growing up," says Peterborough resident Jeremy Cadence, a first-year student at Dalhousie University. "When I learned the role the HPV vaccine plays in preventing cancer, it was a no-brainer to get vaccinated. I just couldn't understand why it wasn't included as part of the regular immunization schedule and why I had to pay for it out of pocket because of my gender."
