Fighting back
In memory of my mother
My first Relay was in 2007. At the time I walked in honour of my mother who had been diagnosed with Lung cancer. We watched her struggle with the news. We watched her struggle as she underwent treatment, day after day. She remained strong and we remained hopeful. In early 2008, she lost her struggle and a new battle began. In 2008, I walked in her Memory for the first time. I walked in 2009 to honour her for her endless bravery, for never giving up even when exhausted and to remember her by lighting a candle.
She was a lovely woman, she found good in everyone. She was a grandmother, she was a mother, but above all she was my BEST FRIEND. In times of adversity, I close my eyes and she is there. I hear her words, those words give me strength and I can carry on.
I will fight back each year and I will continue to walk until I can no longer walk. If my best friend could do it, so can I.
