Why I Relay

Why I Relay
Why I Relay

For My Dad

In Dec 2005 my Dad (Wayne Muir) was told he had brain cancer and during his treatments in Halifax he learned about the 1st Relay for Life to be held in Pictou County on June 5th and he wanted us to enter a family team. Dad passed away May 17th 2006 at the age of 57, just weeks before the event. My son and I went to the relay; purchased and lit a luminary in memory of Dad/Grampie and placed it with all the others. It was the most amazing site watching people walk around the track lit by luminaries and knowing everyone there was touched by cancer in some way. That night I knew I would enter a team the following year.

Since then my sister and I co-captain a team in the relay with some of our friends and co workers, all of us with one thing in common; our lives have been affected by cancer and we want to do something about it. Every year I find out another loved one is battling cancer and another luminary is lit.

This year, again I am honored to co-captain a team. We have been working hard to raise funds and awareness for the Relay for Life-Pictou County 2011. Please support this great cause; make a pledge, purchase a luminary, become a volunteer.
