Hands to Hold

Hands to Hold
Hands to Hold

The life of my grandmothers through their hands.

They say you can tell a lot about a person's life by looking at their hands. My grandmothers both had such distinct hands that this must be true. Grandma adorned hers with rings on almost every finger and even two rings on some. One shouldn't be fooled by the pretty polish and delicate gold as she was as tough as the diamonds that she favoured. There wasn't a prairie chicken in the near bush that was safe if grandma was holding the .22. Grandma gave no nonsense, common sense advice that I didn't always appreciate at the time but can see the value in now.
My Grannie's hands were small much like the rest of her. The biggest mistake one could make would be to presume she wasn't strong. I can remember her fingers tracing the handle of her coffee cup in a determined manner...around and back, around and back. She could sew a creation that was only limited to your imagination in the morning and pull a calf in the afternoon. Her hands were dainty and small, loving and strong much like she was.
It is in honor of these two beautiful and determined women that I will be relaying. I am looking forward to holding hands with some strong and beautiful women that I am blessed to have in my life as we go around the track.
