My cancer story

My cancer story
My cancer story

I have dealt with cancer in my family quite a bit, as I am sure many people have.

I have dealt with cancer in my family quite a bit, as I am sure many people have. My father died of lung cancer, my grandmother died of breast cancer, my uncles, aunts and cousins have had assorted kinds. But the terrifying reality of cancer really struck home when I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 38 years old. With my boys only 6 and 4, Dave and I never thought about what "could happen", just about what was happening. Taking it one day at a time, we worked on getting me better and tried to stay as positive as possible.
With the amazing support of my family and friends, plus a mastectomy and reconstruction, I am able today to say that I am cancer free! Regular mammograms are helping me stay that way!
Now my mother is dying of cancer. At 83, she has had an amazing life but, in the end, it's cancer that is getting her as well. Our family is no stranger to this awful disease and we want to do whatever we can to help find a cure so that cancer can stop doing to families what it has done to ours.
I am organizing this team in the hopes of remembering my loved ones who were beaten, supporting those who are fighting and celebrating the lives of those who have survived, like me! Please help us by pledging what you can!
