Brittany- Why I relay
My mom started relaying when one if my best friend's moms was diagnosed with breast cancer
My mom started relaying when one if my best friend’s moms was diagnosed with breast cancer in order to help support their family. Of course being a friend and the idea of staying up all night made the relay very appealing to me as a teen. Naturally me and my friends then felt we should have our own team and became the dancin' daughters. 10 years ago this year is when I attend my first relay for life.
I never knew back then that now I would have a cancer survivor within my own family. My oldest brother was diagnosed last Christmas with cancer and that brought major hardship to our home. My mom needed to do something more to help fight cancer and our team decided to hold a mardi gras fundraiser last year. My brother is now 8 months cancer free and we are working on the 2nd annual mardi gras fundraiser at Average Joe's sports bar.
