I lost a very special person whom I had been married to for 42 years but my son will hopefully be a survivor of his cancers.

In April of 2011 my husband started to feel different, loss of appetite, energy, and willingness to do things. Always an energetic man, he went to doctors but they couldn't find anything right away. He didn't have the symptoms associated with kidney cancer, but after numerous tests, he was diagnosed on August 22, 2011. After I was as crushed as I thought I could ever be, my son, 37 years old, came to our home on August 31, 2011, to tell me that he had cancer as well. He was diagnosed with rectal cancer and when they did further tests they discovered that he also had kidney cancer. My husband fought his disease for 39 days and slipped away on Sept 30, 2012. My son went through 42 days of chemotherapy and radiation before he had a portion of his kidney removed on Dec 31, 2011. 20 days later, on Jan 16, 2012 he had his rectal surgery and is now finished with 14 weeks of post-operative chemo. Only 3 more treatments to go and he will have completed this terrible portion of his life.
No one should have to go through this, and I will do everything I can to stop this terrible disease.
