We're a Family - We Relay for Hope
We are a family! We Relay together! Together we are stronger and when there's strength, there's hope.....Hope for a cure!!
Our story is one of strength and courage; the strength to fight to help our family and friends through tough times and make the most of the good times when they come along. We lost our mom Vida to lung cancer in November 1992 and our Dad Allen in July 1997. We Relay in memory of those 2 wonderful people.
In 2005 one of our Team members, Joan, was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer. Cancer didn't know what hit it that year when Joan came fighting back! With courage and determination she fought through surgery and treatment with the support of her family and friends has been Cancer Free for about 7 years.
In 2010 the Big C wasn't finished with our family yet, it was my turn next and I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and began my fight to beat this monster of a disease. I underwent 4 rounds of chemo in St. John's for the first step of the plan; the 2nd step was to harvest my Stem Cells which happened in July of that same year. 3 Weeks later I was admitted to the Health Science Center and received a Stem Cell Transplant. Things have improved greatly since then, I continue to do well and very happy to be here to help fight for a cure for everyone else.
Together we can do it and if we have fun along the way well there sure isn't anything wrong with that.
We relay for Hope!!!!!!
