By Chance

I was only there to keep my niece company.

By chance I was involved in the relay last summer. It was a beautiful warm night and I was there to keep my team leader, my niece, company for the night. Then I watched the survivors go by, those who were able walked, and those who were not were driven in classic cars. It was the least that could be done for them. The survivors were lead by a three year old. My heart sank and my commitment rose! Seeing those survivors walk a dirt track, after all they had already been through, touched me and also made me very angry at the enemy we can't see, the one we can't control. It is a war on a sneaky, invasive disease that strikes anywhere, anytime, with no preference for sex, age, colour or culture. How many more miles do we have to walk, how many more one legged runners have to cross the country? We have to walk as many miles as it takes, we have to walk until cancer is dead.
