My Victory!

My Victory!
My Victory!

At 25 years of age I was told I had Hodgkins Lymphoma. Now nearing my 26 th birthday I have been told that I am cured from this disease. This nightmare gave me a vehicle to discover and embrace a life that I was meant to have.

It was July 2008, my friend's wedding day.

She was adamant on having me attend her grand day, but I had an unavoidable appointment, one in which I simply couldn't afford to reschedule. This was the appointment that would determine the course of my life for the next 6 months. I sat with my husband anxiously hoping to hear that the biopsy revealed a benign lump. Instead it was the beginning of a nightmare which I had no escape from.

Fortunately enough, my cancer was caught in the early stages making the prognosis very promising. The treatment was tough to say the least but the most important thing was that I made it. I made it thanks to God's blessings and my family and friends' support.

People who have gone through diseases such as cancer feel that it has given them a whole new meaning to life, but I'm still on the lookout for that. I really can't say that cancer hasn't made me more aware of my body, but I am definitely still travelling the road to discover the life that I have been "reoffered". I know I am going to spend the rest of my life making meaning and living purposefully because perhaps this entire experience was to be reborn, to test my God given strength that I truly truly have, and to appreciate the essence in the simplicity of living a happy and healthy life.

To those who have cancer, be strong, because I truly believe in the strength we can generate to defeat such a challenge. Don't give up because there is a light of hope and victory at the end of this battle, and trust that there are going to be beautiful days ahead, because this nightmare will always only remain as the bad dream you once had.

Cheers to your victory!!!!!
