I may have cancer but cancer does NOT have me

I may have cancer but cancer does NOT have me
I may have cancer but cancer does NOT have me

On April 1, 2008, I was given 12 to 14 months to live! I am still alive and doing great!

I remember waking from surgery and all my family were standing around me with my Neurosurgeon at my feet.

He tells me that the tumor was removed from my brain successfully but the initial pathology report says it is Glioblastoma Multiforme grade 4 cancer. I asked him if anyone had ever gone into remission from this type of cancer and he said, "No."

I said you just met the first person who will. I believe today as I did when I was initially diagnosed that I am going to beat this and I want to help others do the same!

I am 37 years old and ashamed to admit that this is the first time for me participating in this event and it took a diagnosis with cancer to get me to do so.

This year I walk not only for myself but in memory of the following people whom I dearly love, who lost their battle with cancer:

Aunt Effie Lucas - St. George's, NL
Aunt Elizabeth Lyall - Happy Valley - Goose Bay, NL
Uncle Ern Lyall - Happy Valley - Goose Bay, NL
Uncle Alex Austin - Happy Valley - Goose Bay, NL
Uncle Steve Michelin - Labrador City, NL

They are with God watching over me.
