Why I Relay
It doesn't matter your age or your gender. Cancer finds away to prey on the unsuspecting. My wife and I had just started our lives together as a married couple when she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in her mid-twenties.
I relay to help raise money to find a way to support those who are living with cancer in their lives, to raise awareness for cancer prevention, to fund research to cure all types of cancer.
I volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society to honor the lives of those who have fought the battle and to celebrate those who have come up victorious.
I have a number of reasons why I relay, but the number one reason is for my best friend, the mother of my son, my wife. A lump was discovered on her neck by her dentist during a routine checkup. Who would have thought that a trip to the dentist would forever change our lives.
She is now 5 years clear, a major milestone for a Cancer survivor. But cancer never leaves us; it leaves a permanent mark on our lives. Events like the Relay For Life are something that allow cancer survivors and care givers to unite for a night of sharing love, laughter, and support
