The day you changed our life!

Diagnosed at the age of 6 and it all began with a cough how did I know that our lives were about to change forever! It stole the innocense in our lives and replaced it with straighth determination and appreciation of life. A journey that continues..

What seemed to be a cough or flew turned into something much more my daughter was 6 years old and complained of what seemed to be a flew working its way through her body, sore muscles tired, not wanting to eat and she seemed to be losing some weight but she was getting so tall so we thought she’s growing like a bad weed! took her to the family doctor because she started with a cough as well so now I'm thinking wow she’s really getting a cold poor thing. So the doctor gave her a cough medicine with a steroid to stop this cough. The cough did not stop the next morning my daughter got up and it looked as though her face was slouched and my thought was o my goodness she had a stroke!!! I then brought her back to the doctors and they said she had Bells Palsy I thought this cannot be there is too much going on and I did not know what to think so the Dr made a very quick referral to a pediatrician. Then next day we got in...We walked in and he asked if my daughter swallowed any thing that could be lagged in her throat I said no...She never did that when she was little she certainly doesn’t put stuff in her mouth at this age! He said it sounds like there is something in her chest. But we need an x-ray to find out. We went right to emergency at the Alberta Children’s and they took the x-ray, ultra sounds and seen it was a tumor then biopsy then all tests came back that my daughter had T-Cell Lymphoblastic Lymphoma/Leukemia and was a stage 4 it had spread to the fluid around the brain, spine in her kidneys and in the seventh cranial nerve in her face. After 3 long years of treatment and a very painful journey with cancer and two older children at home and dealing with all the stresses of life that come along with having a sick child ...but needless to say it was all worth it because Alysha is now 12 years old and has been in remission for 3 years! Our journey has not ended and the fear is always there that it could come back but I thank all the doctors who gave us back our daughter and we take it one day at a time. We continue to deal with side effects from the treatment and need to do things in our lives differently then maybe others who have not been exposed to cancer but treatment gave us our daughter back!
