Where your money goes

Funds raised through Toast support the Canadian Cancer Society’s mission to eradicate cancer and enhance the quality of life of Canadians living with cancer. When you make a gift to the Society, your money will help to:

• fund the most promising research projects in the country on all types of cancer
• provide information services and support programs in the community
• advocate for public policies that prevent cancer and help those living with it

The Canadian Cancer Society is the largest charitable funder of cancer research in Canada. In 2008-09, we are funding more than $49 million in leading edge research project across the country for a broad range of projects across all types of cancers, including, breast, prostate, colorectal and lung. As the largest charitable funder of cancer research in Canada, we are leading the way towards our goal: creating a world where no one has to be afraid of cancer.

• The number of new cancer cases will increase by approximately 60% over the next 20 years due to our aging and growing population.
• Cancer is the leading cause of premature death in Canada.
• During their lifetimes 38% of Canadian women and 44% of men will develop cancer.
• Approximately 2 out of every 5 Canadians will develop cancer during their lifetime and about one of every 4 Canadians will die of cancer.

Thanks to research, more people are surviving cancer with less severe treatment, and we’ve found more ways to prevent cancer and to detect it early. We need your support to continue to make these advances.
