We've done a lot over the years

The first Relay For Life in Canada was held in 1999 and raised $85,000. Since then, the number of Relays and participants has increased significantly.

By joining us in 2013 during the Canadian Cancer Society’s 75th Anniversary, you will help make this Relay For Life the most successful ever. We’re celebrating our successes over 75 years while recognizing the work that still needs to be done in our fight for life. Only with the continued support of our participants, donors and volunteers will we be able to continue to save lives and support people living with cancer right now.

In 2012:

  • Relay For Life took place in 496 communities across Canada, raising $51 million.
  • Nearly 200,000 Canadians participated.
  • More than 37,000 celebrated survival at Relay
  • 32,000 volunteers made it happen!

Relay For Life is an inspiring, community-based, 12-hour fundraising event. The non-competitive Relay involves teams of 10-15 people who take turns walking or running around a track overnight. Relay provides a festival-like atmosphere with entertainment and activities for all ages. Teams of co-workers, neighbours, families and friends come together to celebrate survivors, remember loved ones lost, honour those fighting cancer today and pledge to fight back!
