I am participating in Cops for Cancer 2019 - Tour De Coast to support the mission of the Canadian Cancer Society.
There are many reasons I chose to participate in this year's event, but I'm riding specifically for the several cancer survivors who make up a huge part of my life. I'm riding as a thank you to the Canadian Cancer Society for funding research that likely helped my girlfriend Lisa survive both ovarian and breast cancer. Like many others, her family has dealt with cancer far too many times. And because it's not just those who are sick that suffer, I also don't want to forget to mention that I'm riding for her mother Dorothy since she has been a part of both her daughter's and husband's battles with cancer.
Another person I'm riding for is someone I would consider to be second father and life-long friend. Let's call him "Furry Murray". Furry Murray worked as a police officer for longer than I've been alive, he taught me the importance of having a sense of humour, and he's also a survivor of pancreatic cancer. I also believe that if it weren't for research funded through the Canadian Cancer Society, he would no longer be with us to make me laugh and annoy his entire family and surprisingly dedicated group of friends :P
The money raised from this event helps fund leading-edge cancer research that is improving cancer treatments, preventing cancer and saving lives; provide reliable and up-to-date information on cancer, risk reduction and treatment; offer vital community-based support services for people living with cancer and their families; and advocate for healthy public policies.
Please pledge me and help reach our fundraising goal! Every pledge takes us one step further in the fight against cancer. Online pledging is secure and it saves the Canadian Cancer Society money by reducing administrative costs.
Thanks for your support!
