I am participating in Cops for Cancer 2019 - Tour De Valley to support the mission of the Canadian Cancer Society.
This is a cause very near and dear to my heart. Throughout my personal life and career, I have lost friends and coworkers to cancer. I lost my father to cancer nine years ago, and I myself am a cancer survivor. As adults we understand the frailties of life, have opportunities to live, learn, love, and develop, over and above what we ever could as children, before this disease has a chance to take what and who we are.
Children who fight cancer are often not afforded such opportunities. In my personal community, one child was lost, just last year to cancer, at the age of six. Another girl in my son’s class, only eight years old, is currently undergoing chemotherapy. And my friend’s daughter, not even one year old, has been diagnosed with a brain stem tumour.
For these children, their days are spent fighting and surviving. Good health, time and energy to play, and freedom from pain is a luxury. For a child, this should never be the case. I'm doing this ride for them.
The money raised from this event helps fund leading-edge cancer research that is improving cancer treatments, preventing cancer and saving lives; provide reliable and up-to-date information on cancer, risk reduction and treatment; offer vital community-based support services for people living with cancer and their families; and advocate for healthy public policies.
Please pledge me and help me reach my fundraising goal! Every pledge takes us one step further in the fight against cancer. Online pledging is secure and it saves the Canadian Cancer Society money by reducing administrative costs.
Thanks for your support!
