My name is Amber McElroy and I have been a member of the Vancouver Police Department since 2004. I am currently employed downtown in a patrol capacity. I am the mother of two beautiful girls aged 5 and 8 years and the wife of a very supportive guy.
I am excited this year about joining the Cops for Cancer team as I have been wanting to participate in this amazing event for quite some time. My family has been heavily impacted by cancer these past few years and I am looking forward to the opportunity to contribute towards such a great fundraising and awareness campaign.
The Canadian Cancer Society is the largest national charitable funder of cancer research in Canada. The money put towards research on all cancers has led to vast improvements in diagnosis and detection of cancer; better, less harmful treatments and improved quality of life during and after treatment.
Last year, Cops for Cancer nationally raised $2.6 million. In 20 years Cops for Cancer has raised $7.4 million towards Camp Goodtimes (a camp for children with cancer and their families) and $29.6 million towards pediatric cancer research.
I am pledging to complete an 800 km bicycle ride in 9 days September 19-27, 2018. This will be an exciting challenge for me; I have not ridden a road bike before, nor have I ever used those fancy shoe clips. I have committed to fundraising $6000 and I am hopeful that you will be able to contribute to this worthwhile organization.
Thank you for your support!
