Daamiann Skelton's personal page.
My name is Damiann and this is my first year participating in Cops for Cancer Tour De Coast. In September, I will be joining other police officers, sheriffs, paramedics and CBSA officers to ride over 800 km to raise money and awareness for kids battling cancer.
The funds raised through Cops for Cancer go to an amazing program for sick kids called Camp Goodtimes. Camp Goodtimes aims to provide an unforgettable and empowering recreational experience for children and youth with cancer and their families. Camp Goodtimes is free: funds to keep Camp Goodtimes running come from donations made by folks like you and me. $1500 is enough to send one child and their family to camp for a week. I hope you will help me reach my personal goal of raising $6000 - enough to enable four children and families to attend.
My motivation to support children battling cancer - and their families - stems from how my own youth was impacted by the disease. I lost my mother and sole caregiver to cancer as a teen. Both during her illness and after her death, recreation and sports provided my brother and me with a means to find and develop our own strengths and a place where we could just be average kids. Camp Goodtimes aims to similarly empower children and youth battling cancer and the families who support them. I can’t think of a more important endeavour.
I dedicate this ride and fundraising effort to my mother, Patricia (Patty) Skelton.
