I am participating in the Canadian Cancer Society Cops for Cancer Tour De Rock to help raise funds for kids with Cancer and Camp Goodtimes.
A little about myself:
I have had the luxury of growing up in the North Island. I have always been so very proud of where l come from. Growing up in Port Alice, graduating out of Port McNeill and now living in Port Hardy. I have three grown kids and six grandson's.
I hate Cancer...let me rephrase that I depise Cancer!!!!! I have lost so many of my friends and family to Cancer. My father and my best friend both so young when they died. My father only 57 and my friend only 46. It seems like everytime you turn around another person you know in the community is being diagnoised with some form or another.
Cancer doesn't discriminate. It doesn't care how old you are or where you live or how much money you have it can hit any one of us at any time. But when it hits kids l get so angry!!!!
When l found out that l qualified to apply for the team l knew l had to try. I was terrified of bikes but l knew that didn't matter l was more terrified of not helping or doing anything. After all it could be any one of my grandsons. I was devasted when l lost my father so I can't even wrap my brain around what it must be like for families who are dealing with their child being sick. This is why I knew no matter my own fear of bikes if l can do something l am going to.
I also ride for Duncan; my junior rider. Duncan is the youngest of four kids at 12 years old. His older brother Myles has been fighting a brain tumor for over a year now. Duncan wants to make a difference too. Not only for his brother and his family but for other families going through the same thing.
It cost $1500 per child to attend Camp Goodtimes. This is camp that provides a place for kids who have cancer to be a normal kid doing normal camp like things. It is a camp that a parent can feel safe to send their kids as they have the Doctors and Nurses on sight to continue with their treatments. They have three programs: kid camp, teen camp and family camp. It is a safe place where a child fighting cancer can just forget about cancer and be a kid. Who wouldn't want to do that for a child?
Please help me and Duncan with our fundraising efforts. Thank you for your taking your time to get to know more about the Cops for Cancer Tour De Rock and thank you sincerely for your support.
