Welcome to Jonathan de Boer's Fundraising Page
Hello to all who have found their way to my personal fundraising page.
My name is Jonathan de Boer and I am honored to be selected as a member of the 2017 Canadian Cancer Society Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock Team. This is a special year, and I am fortunate to participate along with a very special group of individuals for this 20th year Anniversary team!
This year’s team consists of 24 riders which include 18 police officers, 2 fire fighters, 2 paramedics, 2 media supporters and a dedicated community supporter. This group represents many communities from all over Vancouver Island and will be training from May to September before the Tour ride September 23rd to October 6th. The actual tour will be over 1,100 kilometers to raise money and awareness toward pediatric cancer research and support programs for children with a history of cancer.
This terrible disease affects us all. I unfortunately never got to meet my grandfather (Opa), Jack de Boer who passed away from cancer just weeks before I was born. Recently my father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer and he will soon begin radiation. One of my best friends has battled cancer for the last year while having several invasive surgeries, and recently I lost my high school basketball coach/mentor to brain cancer. It’s so unfortunate to see many families undergo such pain and suffering while supporting their loved ones who are currently battling, or who are dealing with unimaginable loss.
I am very lucky to be paired up with my Junior rider, Audrey, who will be five years old in early June. Audrey was diagnosed with kidney cancer a few weeks prior to her 1st birthday and had a very tough go with several surgeries and chemo treatments at such a young age. The amount of stress and hospital visits for Audrey and her family to have gone through was an incredible burden to bear. That is why I am so motivated to do my part in the fight against this terrible disease so other children along with their families don’t have to experience that too.
It is important to understand that money raised from this event helps fund leading-edge cancer research that is improving cancer treatments, preventing cancer and saving lives; provide reliable and up-to-date information on cancer, risk reduction and treatment; offer vital community-based support services for people living with cancer and their families; and advocate for healthy public policies.
Camp Good Times assists children suffering with cancer the opportunity to a have fun, unique and empowering experience which is also beneficial to families. It costs $1500 to send one child to Camp Good Times. Every dollar counts!!! Let’s send more kids to camp!!!
Please support me and assist me in raising as much money from here forward and on throughout the Tour! Every donation plays a crucial contribution in the battle versus cancer.
Thank you so much for all your support!
Remember, it’s for the kids!
