Welcome to Ryan Hendren's Fundraising Page
Hello everyone and thanks for clicking by!
My name is Ryan Hendren. I'm a paramedic, son, brother, friend and co-worker, and most proudly I'm a cancer THRIVER.
My story, if I may share.
Some years ago, when I was just a big kid, I was diagnosed and fought leukemia. I've lived through the grueling months of intensive hospital treatments, the appalling sickness, the hair and weight loss, and the sheer terror that is Cancer. Post treatment, I had to avoid public places, and hadn't the energy to climb even 1 flight of stairs. Most sinister was the unrelenting fear that it may come back; not a day went by without the a moment of panic, wondering...... Is the cancer back? I survived each day, so that I could survive the next. Nothing was normal.
It was not just me that suffered. My amazing parents, remained stoichly by my side, watching helplessly from the bedside. My brother, left in the care of friends and neighbours whilst my parents focussed on my in a different city, was unintentionally ignored. Friends and relatives, nobody knew what to say or what to do.
I ride for all the kids who've endured this same journey. I ride to honour my mom and my dad, and ALL mom's and dad's who so bravely suffer in silence alongside their children. I ride to honour the brothers and sister who suffer in their many own ways that we don't even consider. Speaking of brothers, meet my brother Mark,(the other guy in the photo up there) Like siblings often are, he was called upon to give the gift of life as a bone marrow donor. How do you ever say thank-you for that? I'm once again going to try by peddling beside him for an 1100km bike tour of Vancouver Island.
This is a cause that touches so many people in so many walks of life. Our efforts go to supporting cancer research and most importantly in sending kids, and their siblings affected by cancer, to Camp Goodtimes so that they can escape that dark place called cancer and be normal. Together we can make a life changing difference in these lives!
It is for all this, that I'm truly humbled and consider myself so very privledged to be a member of the 20th anniversary Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock team where I will join both my Brother, my very good friend Glen and all our team mates on the journey of lifetime.
Thankyou. Thankyou. Thankyou, and please join us in sending as many of these amazing kids to camp as we can!!!
