Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. My name is Ben Stewart and I work with the RCMP in one of the most beautiful places on earth, The Sunshine Coast and have been for 6 years now.
I have been given the wonderful opportunity to be a part of the Cops for Cancer Tour De Coast team once again. In 2013 I first joined the ride and had a truly amazing experience riding the roads and highways of the Lower Mainland with fellow Police officers. During the ride we heard heart warming stories from cancer survivors, visited many sponsors and schools that raised thousands for cancer research and saw first hand how the Lower Mainland communities (especially the Sunshine Coast) appreciated the work and effort the Tour De Coast were putting in. It was such a great experience and I am excited to be given another chance to do it all over again!
The money raised from this event helps fund leading-edge cancer research that is improving cancer treatments, preventing cancer and saving lives. But most importantly in my books, 1/5 of the money raised goes directly to sending children with cancer to "Camp Good Times" (campgoodtimes.org). Camp Goodtimes provides a safety-focused, medically supervised, fun and recreational experience for children and youth with cancer and their families. Last year the Tour De Coast sent approximately 20 children to Camp and we are looking to send even more this year.
Please join me and help me reach my fundraising goal! Every pledge takes us one step further in the fight against cancer. Online pledging is secure and it saves the Canadian Cancer Society money by reducing administrative costs.
On 2018-04-08 I will be running in the Sunshine Coast April Fool's half Marathon to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society....the catch is that I will be running the full half marathon in full RCMP duty uniform. I've had a few of 300 metres foot chases in this uniform and let me tell you it is no easy task, the thought of 21 km makes me cringe but in life this small struggle is nothing compared to the everyday battle those little heros face taking on Cancer. Support me on this run and we can help send kids to camp!
I am riding and running for all of my family and friends, past and present who have been plagued with cancer. My support goes out to you: Mom & Dad, Krista, Uncle Dennis and Uncle Brian. Most recently, an old school mate and teammate from my younger hockey years passed away at the age of 35 leaving behind a wife and young child. It is truly unfair and I am dedicating my efforts to see less and less people have to experience such tragedy in their lives.
Thanks for your support and love!
