I am honored to be riding in this year’s Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock 2018 as a guest rider. I recently retired as a high school principal, finishing in January from Spectrum Community School in Victoria. During my time as an administrator, I welcomed four tours to schools I was working in – two at Mount Doug, and two to Spectrum. In 2016 I decided to kick off Spectrum’s fundraising efforts by doing my own mini “Tour de Rock” by riding down Vancouver Island straight from Port Hardy to Victoria. My support team was my wife and our old, ailing dog, who were always no more than an hours drive away.
I did that ride for the kids to support Tour de Rock, but in tribute to my mother, twice a cancer survivor, and John Fawcett, my friend and colleague, who wasn’t so lucky. I did it for other people in my life, too - my mothers’ husband, my father’s wife, both of my in laws, and several friends and colleagues - many are survivors. Because that is what these fundraisers have accomplished. Survivor rates get better and better every year because of the money raised for cancer research.
Please consider supporting this amazing cause by pledging me and/or joining my team. Every pledge takes us one step further in the fight against cancer. Online pledging is secure and it saves the Canadian Cancer Society money by reducing administrative costs. Funds go directly to further research and to send kids with cancer to Camp Goodtimes for a week in the summer where they can just be kids with their families.
Thank you for your support!!
