My name is Mike Johnston and I am a 23 year member of the Victoria Police Department. I am very excited and extremely proud to be riding on the 2018 Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock team.
It has been a long time goal of mine to ride on the tour. Many years ago I tried out for the team but due to an injury, was unable to continue training. Through the years, I have always supported the ride, team members and this great cause.
As with most people, cancer has touched my family, friends and co-workers. Recently both a very close friend of mine and my father in law were diagnosed with the same rare form of cancer, Multiple Myeloma. Watching them both go through treatment, despite the tough times for them, was inspirational.
In November of 2017, Cst John Davidson of the Abbottsford Police Department was tragically killed on duty. I did not know John, but attended his funeral. John was a member of the Cops for Cancer Tour de Valley team (a sister team to Tour de Rock). Watching his tour team members at the funeral, carrying his bike in the procession, and listening to the words spoken about him deeply affected me. It was right then that I committed myself to riding in the Tour de Rock for 2018.
Please help me support the mission of the Canadian Cancer Society by pledging me and/or joining my team. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of childhood cancer patients and their families.
Thank you for your consideration.
