My name is Leah Smith and I am a Grade 12 student at Oak Bay High School. This past year I have grown out my hair to cut it for the Cops for Cancer Campaign. I'm thrilled to be taking part in this campaign and help those effected by cancer.
Unfortautely, like most of us, I have had my fair share of run ins with cancer like most of us, having lost 3 out of my 4 grandparents to various forms of cancer when I was in elementary school. However, I have also seen incredible strength against cancer having seen my uncle and my aunt both defeat it!
As a part time job over the summer I was a camp leader and spent a lot of time with kids, to think that children young as the ones I see running around, swinging on monkey bars, have to face a life threatening disease is wrong, plain and simple. This is why Camp Goodtimes, the summer camp for children with, or who had, paedatric cancer, is so important! It allows these kids and their families to forget about being patients and just enjoy being a kid!
I hope this wasn't too long of a read! The long and short of it is that I am cutting my hair to raise money for a great cause and I hope you will join me on this fundraising journey!
