Welcome to Rachael Zapp's Fundraising Page
In November of 2005, my dad was diagnosed with AML – acute myeloid leukemia. Unfortunately the cancer was caught very late and the doctors said he only had two months to live. He was admitted into McMaster Hospital immediately. The next couple of months were difficult. We spent his birthday, Christmas and New Year's Eve all in the hospital. In March of 2006, he was finally released. I remember he was so excited to be out of the hospital; he instantly organized a family vacation to Florida. In June I participated in my first Relay For Life, a fundraising event benefiting the Canadian Cancer Society. I was so proud to walk the track with my dad by my side. In the summer, our family went on another vacation and travelled to California, Nevada and Utah. I thought things were finally going to be normal again but sadly that wasn't the case. On December 13, 2006, my dad passed away.
The next four years I participated in Relay For Life in memory of him. I organized all sorts of fundraisers to raise money for the cause. It wasn't until my final year of high school that I realized I wanted to pursue a career in non-profit.
Fast forward another nine years. I am currently working for the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) and managing my own peer-to-peer fundraising events. Although Relay For Life will always have a special place in my heart, I am also very excited to be supporting the fifth annual Daffodil Dash. In 2015 I helped organize the inaugural event. Since then, I have had the privilege of watching it grow.
Please consider supporting this event. You can donate, register or volunteer. Money raised through the Daffodil Dash helps raise funds for CCS, the largest charitable funder of cancer research in Canada. The Society invests these dollars in the most promising cancer research that is leading the way in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care, as well as funding Canada's leading cancer patient support network, which works to improve the quality of life and the emotional support needed for those affected by this disease.
Please give what you can. Every dollar gets us one step closer.
In loving memory of Randy Zapp
