Hi, my name is Kaitlyn Bernard and I’m a 15 year old actress from Canada. In 2015 I was cast in an amazing feature film entitled "The Healer”, which truly changed my life. In this film, I play a young girl named “Abigail” who is living with incurable cancer. I had a lot of fun playing her because she was so determined and strong throughout the entire film. Despite the seriousness of her diagnosis she continues to live her life to the fullest. In playing Abigail, I learned to not only take time to appreciate every day but additionally how powerful the gift of giving back to others going through tough times truly is.
A significant amount of the proceeds from “The Healer” will be dedicate towards supporting Paul Newman's Serious Fun Camp Network www.seriousfunnetwork.org all over the world. These camps were established to create opportunities for children and their families living with serious illnesses, to ultimately “take their fun seriously”, and that’s exactly what these camps have done! This inspired me to partner with the Canadian Cancer Society and work with them to raise money for an organization similar to the Serious Fun Camp Network, but based here in Canada. After wrapping The Healer I personally donated a significant amount of funds that I earned from the film, and have since been working hard raising additional funds for organizations like Canadian Cancer Society’s Camp Goodtimes, that help support children living with cancer.
I am proud to say that I have established my own foundation called “Just Breathe”. Just Breathe’s goal is to help kids living with serious illnesses, like cancer, to “JUST be kids”. The money that I am raising will allow more kids to participate in camp and provide for programs that keep camp creative, fun and inclusive to everyone. In addition to giving back to camp, I will also be working towards giving back to kids unable to attend camp, through the Camp Goodtimes amazing hospital outreach program, to ensure that every kid has an opportunity to “just be a kid”.
I am working towards securing sponsors who also see the importance of supporting kids and their families to ensure they can still be kids during this difficult time. My overall goal is to raise $150,000 that will go towards bringing as much fun as possible to kids living with cancer.
Every donation makes a difference and a tax receipt will be provided, thank you for your support!
