Hair Cut April 12 2015
We are all affected by cancer in one way or another and for me it is happened a few times. I have lost three friends personally to cancer and I have another friend currently that is also dealing with cancer and in chemo treatments.
The experience that hit me the hardest was about seven years ago when a good friend of mine Blair Switzer was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 49. I had known Blair for over 25 years and watching him having to deal with this dreaded disease was difficult. Blair was one of those guys that was there for you no matter what, anytime you needed anything and to see him lose his life so fast and young was a real tragedy. Blair died at 52 years of age, and that's the same age that I will be this year, so this is hitting very personally, with me being the same age as he was when he passed away a few years ago.
I belong to The Canadian Loanwolves, a social motorcyle riding group, that is one of the most supporting groups of people you could ever meet. We lost one of our dear members and a friend and leader of the Trail chapter, sadly he was only 50 years old.
This disease is hitting people very close to me and I want to make a difference in the best way that I can. That is why I'm growing my hair for someone dealing with cancer and is losing their hair through the chemo process, and that person will be able to put a hairpiece on their head and look in the mirror and have more self-esteem. So if I can make a little bit of a difference and make their life a little bit more comfortable then I want to do that.
Some of my coworkers at Wheeler Transport, are really pressing me to shave my hair off completely. If you would like to help with this cause I'd really like to ask you to help me raise $5000, and then I will shave my head.
It is important to me, to make a difference in somebody's life and make this a little bit easier to deal with. This won't remove the hurt of the disease itself, but I really want to see an end to this dreaded disease. If I can help in some manner, finding a cure for the disease that is taking people's lives so young, then I want to do that. If giving my hair gives someone a chance to look in the mirror and smile then this is all worth it.
