Welcome to my fundraising page!
This is Caden Descheneaux. He is a Cancer Fighter!
Many of you have seen him running by with his long, blonde hair streaming behind him. What you may not know is that a couple of years ago I said it was time for a hair trim and Caden announced that he wanted to grow his hair so he could help make a wig for someone who was battling cancer. Caden had recently lost both his grandmother and grandfather to cancer. I was shocked as this had never even really come up before, other than when grandma had lost all her hair during her treatments and we talked about options. Caden decided he wanted to specifically help children who have lost their hair due to chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Hair loss can erode a child’s self-confidence and limit them from experiencing life the way children should and he thought he could help!
Caden patiently stayed true to his word and urged his hair to grow past the super annoying stages where it was always in his mouth, getting stuck in his shirt collars and worse, in his eyes. It seemed to always be in the way for a very long time! Not to mention he has a mom who insists that hair is brushed regularly and thoroughly…Caden’s least favourite thing it seems!
There were SOOOO many times that we would be at a restaurant or at a store and we would hear, “how are you ladies doing today?” or “what can I get you girls?” (said to Caden and his sister, Maya). Caden would just look at us and politely respond, giving us a sideways glance that said…here we go again! Caden got told he looked like a girl everywhere he went, even at taekwondo tournaments where the kids would tell him he was in the wrong line (he would be in the boy line and was told the girl line was beside them). He always took it in stride, never altering his decision to grow his hair.
The last time we went to get his hair trimmed, he had about another 2cm to go before it was long enough – this meant another summer of long hair. Now the time has come! His commitment to growing his hair long enough has paid off – it’s long enough for a wig donation!
We are SO proud of this boy! He has endured the inconvenience of being an active child with long hair and always being referred to as a girl to make an impact in someone’s life – giving them confidence and courage to face their next steps.
So, if you see Caden around – you may want to give him a high five!
Can’t wait to see his new look!
Thank you SO much!
Please donate today and help Caden reach his fundraising goal! He wants to do even more than just cut off and donate his long locks! He wants to to raise money as well!
