#30till30 - In honour of Randall Patrick Cook
Last year, my Grandpa passed away of duodenal cancer (a more rare form of stomach cancer). He was a brilliant person. Quiet, smart, introvert. Ate a lot of bagels. Rode a Harley Davidson like a mean gun.
He was a science and a math teacher so he used to come live with us every summer & Christmas holiday when we were growing up. Then in University, he continued this tradition of visiting for months at a time and he would come live with me in St. Catharines.
Sometimes I think that's weird.... a university student living with their grandpa. But then I remember how chill and cool he was. He had hundreds of old rock & blues records - The Beatles, Queen, Fleetwood Mac & Olivia Newton John were my favourite (don't judge me!!). And he would listen to me with such intent. I always felt comfortable sharing those deep, dark feelings you don't share with everyone.
AND SO, I'm about to turn 30. YAY! I feel truly lucky. I'm in a position where I hope that I can reach out to those around me and together, we can make a difference. I know $2000 isn't ground breaking but my plan is to continue donating to causes I feel passionate about each year.
The money raised will help Canada’s brightest researchers make groundbreaking discoveries, provide cancer patients with much-needed support services and ensure that other life-changing work is possible.
To my friends, family & clients, your support means the world to me. Thank you
Proceeds from my fundraiser will support Greatest need
