Let's all help defeat cancer!
I am Kayaking for Cancer again to change the future of this disease and to help raise awareness and funds for the fight against cancer. I hope I can count on your support!
When I paddled first in 2012 it was in memory of my brother Ron and in honour of my wife Jocelyn, a three-year breast cancer survivor at the time. Now, seven years later, she is a ten-year survivor, but in the intervening years too many others among your families and friends and mine have been afflicted and too many of them have succumbed to cancer. 2018 was poignant after earlier that year losing my neighbour Michelle to an aggressive inflammatory breast cancer, and after just days before K4C learning of the passing, less than three weeks after diagnosis, of the dear mother/mother-in-law of two good friends.. I paddle again this year for them, and for my friend Ann, my neighbour's mother, and the mother of another close friend, all of them now also breast cancer survivors or patients. And for your acquaintances and or relatives dealing with cancer. I paddle as well this year for one of my cousins, and his wife and daughter, all of whom have been or are undergoing treatment for cancers in recent months. A rough time.
Please donate today and help me reach my fundraising goal! The money raised will help provide cancer patients with much-needed support services, and will support Canada’s brightest researchers who continue to make groundbreaking discoveries. Scientists like the young Queen’s University researcher I met recently who is studying the ability of bioluminescence proteins (the stuff that makes fireflies twinkle, as one example) to attract targeted therapies to cancer cells.
