Controllers Against Cancer
We are cancer fighters!
Controllers Against Cancer started out as a simple fundraiser by the 8 Wing Air Traffic Control (ATC) Section for a cause that hit home with many aerospace controllers. The first organized event is believed to have taken place in the late 1990s with a team entering a local relay for life weekend. Eventually, this fundraising activity evolved into an annual hockey tournament hosted by 8 Wing ATC section. Participating Air Traffic and Air Defence teams come from the provinces of Quebec, Ontario and New York State. ATC members and their family volunteers begin working on the event about six months in advance to ensure the necessary planning and soliciting of prizes and gifts is completed. Non-playing members of the section and their families also volunteer to meet the many staffing needs during the weekend tournament.
We are proud to be raising funds to support the fight against cancer. The money we raise will help the Canadian Cancer Society's local Wheels of Hope transportation service, helping community members get drives to cancer treatment.
