Pigs of Hope Huron-Perth 2019
YOUR SPARE CHANGE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR THOSE AFFECTED BY CANCER.
The Pigs of Hope campaign has kicked off for its fifth year and the pigs are now available for adoption. Not live pigs, but cute little piggy banks being used to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) Wheels of Hope Transportation Service. Did you know that 1 in 5 cancer patients have trouble getting to their treatment? Our Huron-Perth Drivers provide safe and reliable transportation for people who are receiving lifesaving treatments but are unable to get there on their own. GIVE A RIDE will help patients focus on getting well and eliminate the worry of how they are getting to treatment. This program exists to make sure everyone who needs help getting to treatment can. For a second year in a row, we have the opportunity to do gift matches through our CCS Gift Catalogue. For a limited time every $25 donated can be matched up to 2X. For example, $50 turns into $150.
Supporters are invited to adopt a pig (which is actually a piggy-bank), name it and dress it up for a chance to win a free Echo Dot (3rd Generation). We ask all adoptees to "feed" their pig a diet of spare change from now until late December. The suggested goal is to raise $50 – the average cost of one round-trip ride to London – or as many trips as they would like to fund. We provide an adoption certificate, care and instructions, and a pledge form if someone wants a tax receipt for a donation above $20. Pink and blue are available for adoption.
Last year, thanks to the generous support of our foster families and donors, $27,787 was raised from Pigs of Hope supporting the Wheels of Hope Transportation Service. Since 2015, we have adopted 833 piggy banks which has raised over $78,625 throught this fundraising initiative across Huron-Perth.
When someone is told they have cancer, those words change everything. This program exists to ease a cancer patient’s mind and help take away the worry of how they are going to get to their appointments, allowing them to focus on their treatment and get well. After a registration fee (with a sliding compassionate scale for those in need), this service is offered free of charge to provide transportation to cancer-related treatments. Volunteer drivers provide a friendly, stress-free door-to-door option to clients. Registration is made by calling 1-888-939-3333.
Last year in Huron-Perth, 50 drivers travelled 181,199 km driving more than 114 neighbours to 2,326 cancer-related appointments. Without the Canadian Cancer Society Wheels of Hope Transportation Service, many of these patients would have no other means to get to treatment. However, providing this critical service is costly. The average cost per ride is approximately $50. The typical client uses Wheels of Hope between 10 and 17 times over the course of their treatment with an average cost from $500 to $850 per person. Pigs of Hope helps the Canadian Cancer Society support the cost of this service.
ALL PROCEEDS WILL GO TOWARDS THE WHEELS OF HOPE TRANSPORATON SERVICE!!
