I have a fear of heights. It is a fear that has been with me my whole life. Nothing quite makes me as nervous as looking down from a ladder or even a couple flights of stairs, that was, until my dad's cancer diagnosis in 2011.
My dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in September of 2011. It was a scary time for everyone in our family. As we went through the cancer journey with him, there were highs and lows, but through it, he displayed such strength. In April 2013, after a hard battle, my dad succumbed to his disease. Up to, and during, his cancer journey, I had been a support of the Canadian Cancer Society and all of the fantastic research, programs, services, information and advocacy efforts they provide. My dad's own cancer experience showed me how important it is to continue in the fight against cancer.
I am inviting you to sponsor me in my own personal fear challenge. I have set a fundraising goal of $2,000. If my fundraising goal is reached by the time I travel to Florida at the end of February 2015, I will ride the new Busch Gardens attraction "Falcon's Fury". For those unfamiliar with this ride, you're strapped in to a seat (feet dangling) and taken up 335 feet, then, your seat tilts forward so you are basically laying down facing the ground. You are dropped at 60 miles an hour towards the ground. To get an impression of this ride, please watch the video on the right.
The money raised helps fund the most promising research projects in the country, provide information services and support programs in the community and advocate for public policies that prevent cancer and help people living with cancer.
Please pledge me and help me reach my fundraising goal! Every pledge takes us one step further in the fight for life. Online pledging is secure and saves the Canadian Cancer Society money by reducing administrative costs.
Thanks for your support!
