Brett Trainor's R2S Fundraising Page
For 5 years, my Dad has ridden as a participant in the Ride2Survive. Sure, he is crazier than most, and riding obscene distances in one day has never fazed him... but something about his participation in this event was different from his other athletic endeavours. He spoke about the inspiration and commitment of those on the ride, their shared drive to beat cancer, and to make a lasting difference for their loved ones who had been touched by this terrible disease.
Despite his rave reviews of the event, I couldn't be convinced to join him. I couldn't justify finding the time in my "too busy" schedule to log hundreds of kilometers in the saddle, and kept saying "maybe next year".
Well, this year is different. My Dad's best friend and companion in previous Ride2Survive's, Gary Egli, is fighting cancer himself.
This year, I am riding for Gary, for my Dad, and for my friends and loved ones who, although they may not have been affected directly by cancer yet, will undoubtedly one day have their lives marked by it in some way. This ride is meant to emulate the battle and fight against cancer - sure, it will be gruelling, and I likely will want to quit... but when you're fighting for your life against cancer, giving up is not an option.
This ride is not a race - it is a group effort to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society, and I hope that you'll join me in reaching my goal of raising $2,500. Thank you for your support.
