The short answer of #WhyIRelay is for my dad, Paul, who died in 2012 after an extended battle with Lymphoma and a stem cell transplant. But the long answer goes on and on. My Nanny faced breast cancer several times in her life as well as pancreatic at the end. I have watched my aunts, and parents and grandparents of close friends, as they went through the physical and emotional journey that cancer brings. And in the 5 years that I have participated in Relay for Life, I have seen just how many people around me have similar stories to tell.
Most of all, these years attending Relay have shown me how powerful and inspiring it is to get together and share experiences, pain, hope, and support. The long, fun, silly, and emotional night never fails to remind me that I’m not alone.
