The Corunna Lady Giants have decided to enter a Relay for Life team this coming June to both celebrate and support one of our very own teammates, Erin Williams.
Erin was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the beginning of last summer, just before her 18th birthday. She had developed a large growth on her neck and, after a mono diagnosis, numerous doctor visits and a bunch of tests; it was confirmed to be cancer.
Being the optimistic rockstar that she is, Erin didn’t allow her diagnosis to slow her down at all. She went to two proms looking absolutely gorgeous, finished high school and attended her graduation before beginning her chemotherapy treatments. Also, in true downriver girl fashion, she even played ball all summer and ended the season with a killer batting average.
Erin traveled to London every other week for about 5 months for treatments which lead to her ringing that bell and receiving a clean pet scan at the end of November! WOO ERIN! We’re so proud of you! Your positivity and zest for life is contagious.
She is now in complete remission and has started radiation to bring down her chances of ever getting lymphoma again. The doctors say, at the conclusion of her radiation treatments, she has a 94% chance of NEVER seeing any lymphoma again!
Erin’s story is both inspiring and hopeful as she remained such a positive and happy version of herself throughout her journey. Whether you know someone still fighting, someone who lost their battle or are personally going through treatment; everyone has a story. Please consider making a donation in honour of everyone out there who has been affected by this terrible disease. Any amount, big or small, could make a difference and we appreciate any support you can give!
Thank you in advance and Go Giants
