The Canadian Cancer Society is the ONLY national cancer charity that funds research into ALL 200+ kinds of cancer, and provides local services in our communities.
Each generous runner has pledged to raise at least $5,000 in support of Canada's best lifesaving research and local services funded by the Canadian Cancer Society. Please read below to learn more about each runner and their personal connection to cancer. Each has chosen to direct the funds they raise to support of a specific area of focus - Please donate to help them reach their goals:
Cassandra Bonn, sales executive with Quinte Broadcasting, runs in memory of her late brother, Jason Fraser who died of Synovial Sarcoma at the age of 27, and for her friend Teresa Bell, who has Liposarcoma and after 13 years is still living with cancer and undergoing treatment. All funds raised by Cassandra will support Sarcoma Cancer Research.
Andy Caletti, Owner of Belleville Toyota Scion, runs as a young adult cancer survivor. He has been cancer free for over 16 years. Andy's funds will support our local Wheels of Hope cancer rides program. Wheels of Hope is the Canadian Cancer Society’s local transportation program. Wheels helps families whose children have cancer as well as adults with cancer travel to and from treatment locally and to out of town hospitals as far away as, Kingston, Peterborough and Toronto.
Ryan Kelly, is the regional sales manager for Triangle Fluid Controls in Belleville. Ryan runs in memory of Thomas Martin who passed away in February at the young age of 11 from a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer. Ryan's funds will support Canada's most promising childhood brain cancer research.
Wynand Bekker, pharmacist-owner of Shoppers Drug Mart in Belleville, runs in honour of the the local children in our area who are currently fighting cancer, and their families. He understands the impact and importance of research to these local families, and so Wynand's funds are designated to Canada's best childhood cancer research.
Peter Ervine, Circulation Specialist with Post Media newspapers including The Intelligencer, Community Press and other titles, will be cycling along the full 25K with the tour in order to support the team. All funds raised by Peter will be designated to brain cancer research.
