Sandra's Half Marathon focus
I am participating in The Toronto ScotiaBank Half Marathon to support the mission of the Canadian Cancer Society.
My brother Stephen passed away on the same date as the Toronto ScotiaBank run, last year (October 16/16.) It will be a year since this terrible disease took him from us and his own young family. It was a battle he fought long and hard. It was not a good experience. It was painful, ugly and resilient. I would wish that on any individual, on earth. There was no win-win through that experience. Doctors are getting closer to finding treatments which can help but the cure is less tangible. There must be a reason for all this pain and suffering.
If I can help in some small way, by honouring my brother, it would be to ask each of you to check yourself. Be your own best advocate. Early detection is the best chance we all have. Don't wait! Ask questions! Let other's know about your concerns. Be the lead in the life, which is your own.
If you can help with a small donation to the Cancer Society, that would be wonderful. Although my brother started with Colon Cancer, he did believe that there was more in common with most Cancers, then differences. Perhaps by pooling our ideas together, doctors and professionals can find a way, to the end of this dark, long tunnel.
