I am participating in Pembroke's Zombie Run to support the mission of the Canadian Cancer Society - and defeat zombies!
When I signed up for this run, it was with the hope that my sister-in-law, Jaclyn Van Esbroeck, would be there cheering us all on. Unfortunately, this will not be the case, as Jaclyn has recently lost her battle with breast cancer. She wanted her story to be shared, because she wanted to make a difference; raising awareness and raising funds will hopefully contribute to a world without breast cancer.
Jaclyn was 34 years old. She was a wife, a mother of two, a sister, daughter, aunt, and friend. She was a nurse, an athlete, a book lover, and a traveller. She was genuine, kind, giving, smart, beautiful, and so much more. She fought incredibly bravely for almost an entire year, and she is my hero.
Jaclyn’s story is absolutely heart wrenching – it is also heart wrenching to consider how many other women are going through the same thing. 1 in 9 Canadian women will get breast cancer in their lifetime; 67 women are still being diagnosed with breast cancer in Canada every day.
So on October 31st, our team (JacAttack) will be participating in the 2015 Zombie Thrill Run in Pembroke - the money that our team raises will help the Canadian Cancer Society fight breast cancer. Please consider pledging me if you are able – or participate in this event, or one in your area. Every pledge, and every participant, takes us one step further in the fight against cancer. Online pledging is secure and it saves the Canadian Cancer Society money by reducing administrative costs.
Thank you for your support, and thank you to those who have already donated – it means so much.
