I am participating in a 30-Day Cycling Challenge in November to support the Canadian Cancer Society's Wheels of Hope, a critical transportation service. In Ontario, 1 in 5 cancer patients cannot get to their cancer-related medical appointments.
My husband, Stephen, finished nearly 6 weeks of radiation to the brain on November 4. He stayed at the cancer lodge but still needed a ride to Ottawa every Monday and a ride back on Friday.
Throughout the month of November, I commit to cycling 120km, the average round trip distance to treatment for cancer patients in my area. On average, one patient requires 14 round trips by volunteer drivers through the Wheels of Hope program. Each round trip typically costs the program $60 in my area, so my fundraising goal is $840, the cost of 14 trips to treatment.
Please consider helping me reach my fundraising goal through encouragement or pledging! Every dollar takes us one step further in the fight against cancer. Online pledging is secure and it saves the Canadian Cancer Society money by reducing administrative costs. You can also make a cheque out to "Canadian Cancer Society" with "pledge for Laurie Blackstock" in the memo line and mail it to: Canadian Cancer Society 201-2015 Dufferin St, Perth, ON K7H 3A5
Pledges of any amount are welcome. Here are some suggestions:
- $30, the average cost of a one-way trip to cancer treatment
- $60, the average cost of one round trip to cancer treatment
- $120, the average cost of two round trips to cancer treatment
Thank you so much for your support!
