Anna's 1/2 marathon fundraiser
Hello everyone and welcome to my fundraising page,
Every single person has been affected by cancer in one way or another. Whether it be a friend, a family member, an acquaintance, or yourself, everybody knows somebody who has or had cancer. According to my research nearly 1 in 2 Canadians are expected to have cancer in their lifetime, that is literally half the population of Canada! And 1 in 4 of those diagnosed are expected to die from cancer. There are so many reasons why I chose the Canadian Cancer Society as the chairty I will be raising money for. My Grandmother (Nannie) is a breast cancer survivor and that is just one example of why I will be running for this charity on May 26th. More specifically I chose to run for the Canadian Cancery Society for a girl named Shelby Devine. Shelby is a girl I went to Highschool and half of elementary school with. Shelby is one of the sweetest, kindest, most beautiful girls inside and out that I have ever met. Unfortunatly at just 18 she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Ever since she was diagnosed her world has been turned upside down. After going through aggressive chemotherapy, a bone marrow transplant and a relapse Shelby’s only option became a clinical trial drug being offered in Toronto.
Despite her everyday struggles for battling cancer and fighting for her life Shelby remains positive, with the aim to help others. I've never witnessed someone going through something so terrible turn it into a positive thing. After telling Shelby how amazed I am by her courage and positivety she replied with "I just figure if I can help one person, or help the stigma of 'cancer' than it's all worth it."
Shelby's bravery and kind heart inspired me to run in her name for such an important charity. Please donate and I promise you won't regret it, every penny counts. I will also link Shelby's GoFundMe down below so you can also donate to her ass kicking fundraiser page.
