Hi! My name is Michael Smith and I’m proud to represent the Military Police in the 2019 Canadian Cancer Society Cops 4 Cancer Tour de Rock.
Being both a military member, as well as a police officer, community involvement is essential. Recently arriving from Ontario I wanted to do my part for the community I now call home. Cancer has affected my life, just like it’s effected many others. From coworkers, friends and family members each and every one of us is affected. This is an unfortunate trend in our society that needs to end.
What is Tour de Rock? Well it’s the biggest community event on Vancouver Island. Spanning over 1000 kilometers and visiting more than 27 communities from September 21 to October 4. 80% of funds raised from Tour de Rock goes towards Pediatric Cancer research and 20% to Camp Goodtimes.
Sound like a tough task doesn’t it? Well the real work has already begun. Training 3 days a week, rain or shine for 7 months, biking over 4,500 kilometers in total. A more in-depth look at Tour de Rock can be found at TourdeRock.ca.
I ride for the kids, I ride to fight cancer and I ride so no one has to do this in the future!
