Peace of Mind Campaign
The Peace of Mind Campaign will give a lot of people who've been diagnosed with cancer a place to stay that is both welcoming and safe.
When I first walked into the Kordyban Lodge, I immediately felt like I was home.
I logged and worked in the bush for over 20 years – but the next 7 weeks would be the hardest job of my life. My diagnosis of Stage 4 nasopharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma required 35 radiation treatments and 7 chemotherapy sessions. It was the most difficult thing I’ve ever done. If it weren’t for the services that are in place, I wouldn’t have made it.
The Peace of Mind Campaign will give people like me one less thing to worry about while going through treatment. By lowering the guest fee from $54 per night to $20 per night, we can help people when they need it most. I don’t like to take charity, but sometimes you need the help.
Now back at home, I find myself missing the friends I made at the Lodge. We would sit in the TV room, all of us together playing cards, watching the hockey game and joking with each other. It was like being with your family.
Thank you so much for giving us peace of mind,
Proceeds from my fundraiser will support Support programs such as transportation to treatment or accommodations near medical centres for out-of-town patients
