So that others may survive too Having taken part in Relay for several years it's an incredible way to "give back" and increase awareness. I was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2000 and thyroid cancer in 2002, and had successful surgery and follow-up treatment for both. When it was announced that Relay for Life was coming to the east end of Ottawa I was very excited! Here was an opportunity to give thanks to the community and local medical staff. I formed a team in my church and participated for three years as a team captain in the cold, the wet and the wetter! But it was so worth it. Last year I focused on fund-raising as a member of a team and similarly will this year but unfortunately due to a cerebella ataxia condition I do not have the stamina to pull all-nighters. However, I will continue to raise money and awareness "so that others may survive too". |
