It's not just about me anymore

My own battle with cancer opened my eyes to the many survivors, sufferers, and those who lost the fight with the evil demon.

I am just over one year cancer-free, and participated in the 2008 Relay, just weeks after receiving my great news of being cancer-free. As I battled the disease, and then recovered, my eyes were forced wide open. The number of people diagnosed each year is flabbergasting.

I had tremendous support from family, friends, and co-workers, and I know that it was the people who cared about me who got me through this, and to where I am today.

I need to participate in the Relay For Life to start to give back, in some small way, all that I had received. My treatment team and doctors, my friends, my family, my co-workers all went the extra mile for me, and it is now time for me to do the same.

I know 9 people who have been diagnosed in the short time since I was diagnosed in August 2007. That's too many! We must fight back together so others can be as fortunate as I was.

This is why I relay.
